Following your implant treatment, we recommend minimizing contact with the implant for the first two weeks after placement. When eating, choose soft foods and chew away from the implant site.
We’ll see you for a follow-up appointment about two weeks after your procedure to remove any sutures.

After your surgery
What to expect
and what to do.
Initial bleeding
Bleeding can continue for several hours. Fold damp gauze over the site and bite gently for 30 to 60 minutes. Pink-tinged saliva for 2 to 3 days is normal. Don’t touch your sutures.
Swelling
Swelling peaks at 2 to 3 days and can last 7 to 10 days. Apply ice packs 20 minutes on, 20 off for the first 24 hours. After 48 hours, use a warm, moist compress.
Pain medication
If you are not allergic, take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen before the local anesthetic wears off. If you take Plavix or Coumadin, tell us and we’ll prescribe an alternative.
Foods and drinks
While numb, avoid hot liquids, hot foods and carbonated drinks. Once numbness wears off, progress gradually to solid foods.
